Why Handmade Cards Still Matter

In our digital age, it’s easy to send a quick “Happy Birthday!” on someone’s Facebook wall or shoot off a text. And while those gestures are thoughtful, they don’t always feel personal.

There’s a reason cards still make us pause.

Since the pandemic, I think many of us have become more aware of how disconnected we sometimes feel. We need personal, tangible reminders of our relationships. We need small gestures of care. We need community.

Handmade cards are my way of nurturing that sense of connection. They are hope and love made visible.

Finding My Way into the Cardmaking Community

After that first card in 2023, I started exploring. I had no idea there was such a vast and vibrant world of cardmaking out there—techniques, supplies, YouTube creators, online classes, and a whole community of passionate crafters.

Some of my favorite creators include Cathy Zielske, Jennifer McGuire, Kristina Werner, and Jen Schurkus. Thanks to the rise of online workshops during the pandemic, I started signing up for classes—many more than I’ve finished (I’m a bit of a knowledge hoarder!).

I also may have gone slightly overboard with supplies—stamps, dies, inks, paper—I love it all.

But more than anything, I love how cardmaking has taught me to give myself permission to play, to experiment, and to enjoy the process.

Why I’m Starting This Blog

This blog is my way of weaving it all together: creativity, connection, and continual learning.

I want to share the joy of rediscovering handmade things. I want to work through the stash I’ve accumulated, take you along as I revisit classes, and celebrate the beautiful imperfection of the creative process.

Whether you’re a fellow cardmaker, someone who loves snail mail, or just a kindred spirit drawn to meaningful connection—I hope you’ll join me.

Let’s make something beautiful together. 💖
